WALKING IN THE LIGHT

I John 1:7, “But, if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.” We think naturally in this order. First we are cleansed, then we walk in the light, but that is not true. First we walk in the light and then we are cleansed. First we walk in the light, otherwise we would not see the need to be cleansed from sin. First we expose ourselves. That is why we confess our sins before each other. That is the beginning of walking in the light. Adam and Eve were naked in the garden, but they walked in the light and it says in Genesis that the glory of the Lord clothed them.

As we walk in the light, we accept faith, truth, love, and hope, and we have fellowship with each other. We sit at the table of fellowship where we become equal, and as we have fellowship, the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin.

Some of us know that we love God and that we are cleansed from sin, but not from all sin. We accept God mentally, but we miss the mark in our thinking, in our drives, in our lusts, in our desires, and yet, we are Christians that have accepted the blood, but we are not cleansed from all sins. Many Christians are contaminated, but that does not mean they are going to hell. Some of us come to heaven with one eye missing or one arm missing. It is better, as the scripture says, to come to heaven and tear out one eye because that eye defiles and has not been cleansed. If I do not know how to cleanse my eye, it is better to go as a lame man like Mephilosheth or like a blind man, than to let that eye defile my life. Therefore, I have to continuously walk in the light.

What is the light? Light exposes those things we fear and those things we do not want to expose because we are ashamed. Therefore, we want God to do everything in secret. We do not tell anything to anyone, and eventually, we need a big deliverance because we have not dealt with anything inside. Some of us do not need to be delivered; we just need to be open. When we are open the demons flee by themselves. No demon will come in the light because the devil loves darkness.

Therefore, when we come into the light, we have fellowship with each other. There is sometimes little or no fellowship in some churches. There are intrigues and clicks but no fellowship. People are drawn to fellowship around His table because of who God is in us. Only in the place of vulnerability and weakness can we become strong. God does not become strong in our sins. He becomes strong in our vulnerability as we yield ourselves to God. Then it says, “and the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses me from all sin.” That cleansing makes us pure.

In His Love,
